XHTML is a successor to HTML. The purpose of XHTML is it’s XML based standards. XHTML has emerging support in all the modern browsers on desktop computers and is supported in other devices such as mobile phones. Another reason for using valid XHTML is to provide programmatically correct documents. Code that is well formed and easier to read is not only easier on a programmer to use, but it’s easier for a computer to read and understand as well. This means the page can load as fast as possible in the browser and the search engine can easily read the document.
CSS is a programming language used to layout and style an XHTML page. This includes fonts, colors, layout, and any other presentational aspects of the document. Many of the images can be loaded as background images in the CSS adding focus to the content in the XHTML page that the spider uses. The CSS is stored in external files and will not be parsed by a search engine. This is beneficial because it is crucial that the search engine finds the content in the XHTML in the most efficient manner possible.
By converting a table based layout to XHTML/CSS, it eliminates any extra code found in many layouts by keeping data elements in the XHTML file and layout elements in the CSS file. This makes the code easier to read for both the developer and the search engine spider. A developer can also use XHTML to define importance of certain aspects of the site and relay that to the spider.
Advanced JavaScript can make your website more interactive with the user as opposed to your traditional point to point to point style web architecture. JavaScript has to be functional or it's not something we would recommend otherwise. It has to have a purpose and increase the usability of the site without hindering the user experience. We are proficient in advanced object oriented JavaScript using the latest JavaScript frameworks such as Prototype, Mootools, Scriptaculous, etc. If there is another library you are interested in or have special JavaScript needs, please let us know.
We are proficient in writing object oriented PHP code that will help integrate the front-end to the back-end of your site. From templating logic to integration with backend data mechanisms such as SOAP/WSDL, JSON, XML/RSS, databases, etc, we can create PHP code to integrate with your existing data infrastructure.
We are familiar with a handful of content management systems (CMS) written in PHP such as ModXCMS and Drupal as well as templating languages such as Smarty.
If you have PHP questions let us know. We can point you in the right direction.
MySQL is the database of choice for the majority of our projects. For the most part the style of sites that we create that need a database backend can be handled effectively with MySQL. We have some experience with other SQL based databases as well. Let us know if you have something else in mind.
